Maya is a life-long social, environmental, and political activist and has proven so through her actions. In 2012, she became a food activist and went to co-found FoodBlessed, a pioneering national hunger-relief and food-rescue non-profit organization that strives to eliminate hunger and save food from landfills in Lebanon.
FoodBlessed is a community-based and volunteer-driven organization leverages food, volunteerism, and social responsibility to fight food insecurity and reduce food waste across Lebanon. By curbing food wastage, FoodBlessed not only helps tackle hunger but also plays an active role in fighting climate change.
Under Maya’s direction and with the help of thousands of volunteers, FoodBlessed has now successfully delivered 3,000,000 meals to those in need while diverting nearly 2 million tonnes of food from landfill.
Maya has won several international awards, the most recent of which is the ‘50Next Award for People Shaping the Future of Gastronomy’ and the UN Women’s ‘Leader of Change’ in 2021.
