The Sustainable Development Goals
In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals (officially known as the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs). It’s now five years on, and we have more work than ever to do. These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030, by ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate change. Guided by the goals, it is now up to all of us, governments, businesses, civil society and the general public to work together to build a better future for everyone.
During the Youth Leadership Programme, the YLPers are first and foremost introduced to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the 193-member states of the United Nations in 2015. The 2030 Agenda pledges to leave no one behind, by trying to reach those who are furthest behind and the most vulnerable.
In 2020, a talented group of YLP 6 participants took the initiative to reflect how they can imagine the Sustainable Development Goals as characters. YLPers participating in this initiative were: Jennifer Feghali, Lama Fakhoury, Mhmad Sharif, Yara Dargham, Sabine Asmar, Karen Takkoush, Karen Al Hassanieh, Gabby Fraidy, Aya Youssef, Ali Rahal, Malak Zaher, Pascale Bou Chahine, Omar El Azzi, Marwa Maadarani, Jana Mrad, and Maria Theresa Kallasy.
